NEW RELEASE: Wordsmith - Apt. 507 EP
NU REVOLUTION ENTERTAINMENT is proud to present the new project from Baltimore’s premier artist WORDSMITH, the very special “Apt. 507” EP. This ambitious album compilation reveals in intimate detail the struggles of life in reality for a professional, independent musician on his quest to be great.
Wordsmith is living a real American Dream as a single father of two with an apartment, a day job, a musical career, an entertainment label and a goal… to write great songs and make sound content that motivates and affects people forever.
Every aspect of the “Apt. 507” EP is inspired by Wordsmith’s life living at home in Baltimore City and is a conscious claim for B’more artist supremacy. Baltimore does not have a true mainstream music artist to represent its people and pride, so for 7 years Wordsmith has worked to build that reputation with reliability and professionalism.
The “Apt. 507” EP in its entirety contains: Wordsmith’s 8 track album of jazz influenced hit songs flavored for LIVE performance, music videos for each song from the album and a film showcasing the artist and the process for creating “Apt. 507”.
The “Apt. 507” EP is a milestone for Wordsmith marking the first time he has had full creative control over all aspects of a project, from writing, recording and performing the records to producing, directing and editing each music video and accompanying “Apt. 507” film. Having complete mastery of the vision, Wordsmith can guarantee its authenticity and meanwhile provide a great example for other independent artists of the benefits to remaining self-sufficient.
The “Apt. 507” album opens with a “Ride & Rant,” with Wordsmith behind the mic and behind the wheel at the same time! Longtime fans know Word puts so many miles on his car he puts a mandatory riding song on every album he releases and “Ride & Rant” is the latest of hits like “Traffic Jammin”, “Globetrotters”, and “Ridin’ Low”. “Ride & Rant” is structured like a rant, without a hook or bridge but with fierce and constant lyrical honesty, starting up then revving up the intensity for the rest of the album. The video features friends in the NU Revolution and their rides and was shot all along the streets of Baltimore.
The next song off Wordsmith’s “Apt. 507” album shows the rewards from dedication and determination with “I Got a Promotion”. This record features Paul Rivers Bailey! Wordsmith experienced a life-imitates-art moment while creating “I Got a Promotion”, finally receiving one from his day job after ten years earned. Meanwhile in all that time he worked tirelessly toward a promotion and ascension in his music career. By battling ignorance and prejudice with a positive message, Wordsmith is able to celebrate the benefits of hard work and show the youth that any level of success is attainable to someone willing to work for it. “I Got a Promotion” celebrates the reaching of goals and should be a motivating force for the betterment of our nation. The “I Got a Promotion” video was filmed utilizing Wordsmith and NU Revolution Entertainment connects around Baltimore.
Wordsmith’s third song from “Apt. 507” is called “Gems of Wisdom”, an upbeat and honest revelation of who he is as a man, what he represents as a musician and how he intends to mentor through his legacy as an artist. As a motivational speaker/performer, Wordsmith has been welcomed by both schools and conferences to perform his music, motivate for anti-bullying or share expertise on the business and always his message of Purpose. “Gems of Wisdom” is the song where Wordsmith proves that, for success, intelligence is a better alternative than ‘dumbing it down’. This song features BJR! The video for “Gems of Wisdom” was shot around the city at Lexington Market, Old Town Mall and Penn Station and also included a trip to Gettysburg, PA for some monumental shots. The “Gems of Wisdom” video is special because it is part one of a two part story concluded in the video for the next song on the album…
“Talking to the Most High” is another lively and motivating record where Wordsmith explores his desire to ascend to the heights of greatness and how he finds his motivation through his own faith and action. Working hard and keeping a positive attitude in the face of adversity is key to Wordsmith’s success, granting him the knowledge that nothing is ever impossible and shouldering him with the responsibility of proving it to the world. “Talking to the Most High” is Wordsmith leading by a good example for everyone, the faithful and the faithless. The “Talking to the Most High” video concludes the narrative began in the “Gems of Wisdom” video, so fans will want to see both for the full vision. “Talking to the Most High” was shot on the building roof of Apt. 507 and displays the Baltimore City skyline proudly from the top. A special location was used for the final scenes in the video, the 100+ year old ruins of St. Stanislaus Church. Both videos feature Wordsmith’s son Ezequiel as the young man before his journey.
Track 5 is not just “Some Random Remix”, it is a perfect song to show Wordsmith’s layered history and supreme attention to detail in his craft. Longtime fans of Wordsmith will recognize the verse from the original record “Some Random Thoughts”, a highly trafficked freestyle he released as a free download off the “Blue Collar Recital” mixtape: “The Backstage EP”. “Some Random Remix” has a brand new sound fit for Wordsmith’s LIVE band performances and the many random thoughts he touches upon are as powerful today as they were when first released. This record is a small tribute to longtime Wordsmith fans; he hopes to shoot the video at some random places on his upcoming Armed Forces Entertainment tour to Africa and Southwest Asia!
Wordsmith and his band, The Big Band Theory, will play for members of U.S. Armed Services stationed overseas, dedicated soldiers who need a taste of home and deserve some Hip-Hop that speaks more to their blue collar ears.
Like the previous song, the next song “Blue Collar Band” is another band remix, this time of “Blue Collar Poet” off “The Backstage EP”. Wordsmith has always been the People’s MC because he chooses to find his artistic motivation within real life rather than the fantasy life of current Hip-Hop. Everyday people can relate and find comfort in his music because he is just like them and making music about it. The video was pieced together from the first studio session that Wordsmith & The Big Band Theory ever had.
The next record featured on the “Apt. 507” EP is Wordsmith’s “Coco in December”, an intimate track about the love we seek to keep us warm when reality gets cold. Life can feel like a frigid day in winter but with a little Coco we can keep warm and weather the storm. Wordsmith’s metaphor for Coco is the love of a good woman, revealing how she can change a man’s life so profoundly with her devotion. “Coco in December” illustrates that true beauty is always present and can help motivate greatness out of adversity. The video features the lovely Ms. Cavel as Coco and was filmed on location at The Inn at the Black Olive and Midnight Kings Hookah Lounge.
The “Apt. 507” EP concludes with a glimpse “Behind the Scenes”, Wordsmith’s nightcap track that features the voice of Nikki Taylor. Human beings have needs and desires that sometimes can only be satisfied behind closed doors and only with that special someone. Female fans of Wordsmith always know to look out for his seductive-but-classy records to close out the full album experience, and Wordsmith never disappoints! Although, only time will tell if a video can ever be shot of what really goes on “Behind the Scenes”…
Wordsmith made a conscious decision to wrap the “Apt. 507” EP at 8 songs, arranging the music to promote replay value; catchy songs on a compact album means listeners get back to their favorite tracks that much quicker. Also, the current music purchasing trends show typically a few singles are bought rather than a full album, so for “Apt. 507” Word made the few singles the full album. Each song was to be given full single treatment complete with its own music video. The scope of the project and the amount of work put into each song of the album and their videos has made 8 tracks the magic number.
