Kate Pierson - iconic voice and founding member of the B52s, punk, new wave, genre-defying band, has announced a new summer tour, including two very special shows at City Winery in support of her critically acclaimed debut solo record, Guitars and Microphones. A revered pop icon, Kate’s songs are rife with girl group wit, drama, and rejection of stereotypes, and her solo offerings are big songs with bigger meanings.

Today she shares the animated video for her track “Matrix,” created by the brilliant Japanese artist Robert Nobita. A huge fan of Kate, Nobita got in touch after he submitted a video to the Kate Pierson Facebook page. Through an interpreter via email, Nobita’s vision was inspired after he was sent a translation of the song lyrics as well some accompanied imagery to include with his animation.

Produced by Tim Anderson (Ima Robot), Guitars and Microphones features Nick Valensi (The Strokes) on several tracks, with songs co-written by Sia, who executive produced the album. The album is available now on iTunes, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble. Be sure to catch her on tour this summer!

“I'm having a vinyl revival after buying a wind up RCA Victrola at a local auction.” Kate explains. “The 78s my father left me sounded miraculous on this incredible record player. So I was determined to have some vinyl come out with the release of Guitars and Microphones - my first solo album. The highly anticipated arrival of Guitars and Microphones has Pierson making waves all around. The album debuted at #7 on the Top New Artist Chart, and today marks the first of four nights that Kate will sit in with Late Night with Seth Meyers’ 8G Band, airing 12:35/11:35c on NBC! She offered career and fashion insights on NPR Morning Editionand today reveals the video for her new album title track “Guitars and Microphones”."The song is autobiographical so I mined my treasure chest of family photos and my friends Dan and Dayna pulled them all together to make the soundtrack of my early days,” shares Kate.
